Privacy Policy for Tama
Last updated: 2026-10-14
This Privacy Policy explains how the Tama mobile application (“Tama”, “the app”, “we”) handles information when you use it. Tama is an ND filter exposure calculator and long exposure timer for photographers, published by Sime Basioli (contact: sime@sikira.co).
We designed Tama to be privacy-friendly by default: the app works entirely on your device, we do not run our own servers, we do not have user accounts, and we do not track you.
Summary
We do not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information.
We do not use analytics, crash reporting, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
Tama makes no network connections — the app is fully offline and sends nothing off your device.
The only permission Tama asks for is notifications, to tell you when an exposure has finished. It does not ask for camera, photos, location, contacts, microphone, or motion sensors.
Your settings are stored only on your device.
1. Information we process
1.1 Settings and preferences
Tama saves the following in the app’s local storage on your device, so the app opens the way you left it:
Your exposure setup: shutter speed, aperture, ISO, ND filter, film reciprocity on or off, and the chosen film
Your preferences: red night mode, notify when done, Live Activity, beep in the last 10 seconds, and haptics on or off
These values never leave your device and can be removed by uninstalling the app.
1.2 Exposure log
Each time you run the timer, Tama adds an entry to the exposure log on your device: when the exposure started and ended, how long it was planned to run, whether it ran to the end, and the settings used (shutter speed, aperture, ISO, ND filter and film). The log is stored only on your device, is never sent to us, and can be deleted at any time with Clear in the log, or by uninstalling the app.
1.3 Notifications and Live Activities
If you allow notifications, Tama schedules a local notification on your device for the moment an exposure ends. If Live Activities are on, the countdown is shown on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. Both are created and shown by iOS on your device. They contain only the exposure time and settings, and are never sent through our servers or anyone else’s.
1.4 Contacting us
If you tap Contact in Settings, Tama opens your mail app with a draft addressed to us. To help us answer support questions, the draft already includes the app version, your device model (for example “iPhone18,2”), and your iOS version. You can see and edit this text before sending, and nothing is sent unless you send the email yourself. If you do, we receive your email address and whatever the message contains, and use them only to reply to you.
1.5 Links and sharing
Rate and Privacy open pages in the App Store or your browser, and Share opens the iOS share sheet with a link to the app. These are handled by Apple’s system apps and the services you choose, not by Tama, and are subject to their own privacy policies.
2. Information we do NOT collect
Tama does not collect, process, or have access to:
Your name, email, phone number, or any account identifier.
Your location, contacts, calendar, camera, or microphone.
Your photos — Tama does not read or add to your photo library.
Advertising identifiers (IDFA, GAID).
Analytics events, crash reports, or telemetry.
Purchase, payment, or billing information (any purchase is handled by Apple’s App Store, not by us).
Browsing history or data from other apps.
Tama has no login, no user accounts, and no ads.
3. Third-party services
Tama does not use any third-party services, SDKs, or external data providers, and makes no network connections. All calculations happen on your device. Nothing is sent to us or to any other party.
4. Legal basis for processing (GDPR)
For users in the European Economic Area, the legal bases for processing are:
Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): storing your settings, preferences and exposure log on your device, which is necessary to provide the app’s functionality.
Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR): showing notifications, which you allow through the iOS permission prompt.
Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): replying to an email you send us, using the information you choose to include.
You can withdraw notification consent at any time in your device’s system settings. Doing so does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
5. Your rights
Because we do not collect or store your personal data on our servers, there is nothing we can access, modify, export, or delete on your behalf. You retain full control on your device:
Delete the exposure log: Tama → Exposure log → Clear.
Delete all local data: uninstall Tama.
Turn off notifications: iOS Settings → Tama → Notifications, or Tama → Settings → Notify when done.
Turn off Live Activities: Tama → Settings → Live Activity.
Turn off haptics: Tama → Settings → Haptics.
If you have emailed us, you can ask us to delete that correspondence at any time.
Users in the EU/EEA have rights under GDPR (access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection). Users in California have rights under the CCPA (right to know, right to delete, right to opt out of sale; we do not sell data). To exercise any rights or ask questions, contact us at sime@sikira.co.
6. Data retention
We do not retain any user data on our servers because we do not operate servers. Data stored on your device remains until you clear the log or uninstall the app. If you back up your iPhone, iOS may include the app’s data in that backup, which is handled by Apple under your own backup settings. Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to answer you, and are deleted on request.
7. Children’s privacy
Tama is suitable for all ages and does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. If you have any concerns, please contact us.
8. International data transfers
Tama makes no network requests and uses no servers, so no personal data is transferred off your device or across borders by the app.
9. Security
Tama operates offline and makes no network connections, so your data never travels over a network. Settings are stored using the platform’s standard preferences storage (iOS UserDefaults), and the exposure log in the app’s private storage, both protected by iOS app sandboxing.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be communicated within the app or alongside an app update. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the revised policy.
